"... lead counsel for the plaintiff in a commercial real estate dispute winning a $16.5 million verdict."

“The very astute members of the jury saw through the defense and made the right decision after deliberating for less than two hours. I’m proud of our client for standing up for himself when most people would have taken the blow and tried to move on with their lives.” – Jarrett L. Ellzey

Lawyers are supposed to fight for their clients, but it is the rare advocate that truly believes in the cause of their profession — helping people fight for themselves in the face of injustice.

Jarrett L. Ellzey has been a litigator his entire legal career, but learned the art of trial law through countless hours and many years dedicated to his craft.  Since graduating from law school, Jarrett has represented plaintiffs and defendants in matters ranging from simple breach of contract cases involving two small businesses, to nationwide consumer class actions with tens of millions of dollars are at stake.  Jarrett began practicing law at a prominent defense firm where he represented physicians, hospitals, and nurses in medical malpractice actions.  The opportunity to represent brilliant and distinguished medical professionals was extraordinary; but, Jarrett’s goals were always geared toward working for individuals who were injured by the unfair or negligent practices of businesses with greater economic clout and influence than any consumer or working person.  The chance to realize this goal came about in 2010 when Jarrett teamed up with his long-time friend and partner Craft Hughes to form Hughes Ellzey, LLP.

Since Hughes Ellzey, LLP opened for business in 2010, Jarrett and his partner Craft have tried dozens of cases and, during only a five-year stretch, succeeded in obtaining over $23 million in verdicts.  To serve as an example, Jarrett served as lead counsel for the plaintiff in a commercial real estate dispute winning a $16.5 million verdict in Harris County, Texas, earning him and the firm honoree distinction in the Texas Verdict Hall of Fame by Texas Lawyer VerdictSearch and recognition for one of the largest civil awards in Texas in 2012.

Jarrett’s success is not limited to results in the courtroom for his individual clients.  His practice in large part focuses on consumer related class actions, whistleblower (qui tam) actions, and wage and hour collective actions.  Jarrett and the members of his firm have successfully handled a large class action docket and have recovered millions in settlements for classes of consumers injured by deceptive and illegal business practices.  Jarrett also has extensive experience investigating and working closely with the government in the prosecution qui tam actions, often alleging hundreds of millions of dollars of losses to the government at the hands of a dishonest business.  Jarrett and Craft will not hesitate to fly across the country in short notice to meet personally with the potential whistleblower because they understand that the brave and selfless act of reporting outside the company is likely to have an everlasting effect on that individual’s career and personal life.  The importance of a close working relationship under such circumstances is critical to ensure the client’s comfort throughout the process and facilitate trust and communication between the client and his or her lawyer.

Jarrett brings a wealth of world experience to his practice. Born in Dallas, Texas, Jarrett is the son of a Navy officer and airline pilot and lived in numerous cities across the country before settling back in Texas. Jarrett and his wife Jennifer married while living in California, and now raise their three daughters less than five miles from where Jarrett played little league and attended High School. He works to ensure that they grow up in a society that abides by its rules and laws of fairness and safety.
